  1. ok this is relly F**King me off now. I had two Xvid files that i managed to convert to DVD and worked perfectly. But now when i am trying to do it i am getting gerkey playback when watching the DVD. I author the DVD using spruceup and burn it with nero using the UDF 1.02 option not the DVD-Video option. When i encode the file to Mpeg and watch it using Power DVD the file is fine. it is also fine when i preview the file using the spruceup preview function. i do all the normal stuff. strip the audio fix the video using VDub(if there r any bad frames), convert the audio to wav, match the audio/video sync problems(if there r any) then convert using TMPGEnc to get a *.MPEG file. I dont use an exteranl tool for the audio i just use TMPGnc it seems to give me ok results as i have already converted the sound to a wav using Goldwave or BeSweet. One thing to add here i am converting the source Xvid file from 23fps to 25fps. Could the problem be the Xvid file or could it be one of the tools i am using i.e Nero or spruceup?. any pointers in the correct direction would be extreamly helpful.

You mean 23.97 FILM to 25.00 PAL? Search for the FILM to PAL conversions. There are some extra steps to deal with what is esentially 1 missing frame/sec, as well as correct the audio length. Check your DVD for having the pulldown flag mis-set? Shouldn't be there.

OK, just read your post. I've done this loads of times. Unfortunately takes a little longer to get the perfct PAL conversion You will need Wavworks for the sound (see link at bottom). Using virtualdub, use 1.4.13 not version 1.5.1 (very slow at converting to wave files)

    1) Open xvid with virtual dub
    2) Audio - full processing mode
    3) File-save wave (give a filename)
    4) Go to audio - no audio
    5) Go to video - direct stream copy
    6) Go to video - framerate and change to 25 fps
    7) File - save as avi (new filename)
    8) Close virtualdub
    9) Open Wavworks
    10) On stretch tab in Wavworks specify input/ouput files and make sure framerate conversion is ok. Then run it (5-6 mins normally)
    11) Open virtualdub - open avi file at 25fps with no audio
    12) Go to audio - wave audio and open new wave file (converted to 25fps)
    13) Check syncing and either:
    a/Frameserve to virtualdub
b/ Set audio and video to direct stream copy and save as new avi, then use TMPGenc to open new avi and convert...

(remember to do stuff for badframes inbetween all this)
Have done this for many movies in past... perfect results.. no jerky pictures
