I read in the media list about Princo 2X not being TDK etc, how do I tell if they are TDK or not?? I have some Laser 2X that are exactly the same ADVD code (TDK blah blah, same as the real TDK code in the media list). They both will burn at 2X on my Sony DRU500AX 2.0C. Both are reasonably priced.

  2. well a few ways, first the colour of the dye, its that light purple everyone talks about.
secondly, check the dvd-media section, there's an entry for the laser discs
and thirdly, why im replying, i have the laser dvd-r's, and they arent TDK's.
Basically any media with this tdk code BUT tdk brand discs are the fake media..
If your wondering how well do they work? they work not too bad on my sony, using 1.0g firmware.
No coasters so far, all have burnt, some had probs reading back, but im starting to realise this problem is more of a combination of factors. ie the firmware used to burn can help a player playback the media somewhat, the drive reading the disc can also have an adverse affect. I have some discs i burnt that my liteon DVDROM had difficulties with in trying to read particularly towards the end of the drive, yet the sony dvd-r drive and another DVDROM (SAMSUNG SD616) read it back fine..

    hope it helps
