I currently have a Celeron 950 based machine with a 7200 RPM ATA 100 hard drive and 576 MB Ram. It takes me approximately 10 hours to encode 1 hour of video with TMPGEnc using the default settings for VCD for a 4:3 525 line NTSC in non-interlace mode. The video was captured using Huffyuv codec and settings of RGB24 and 480x480.
The time is longer than I would like so I am considering upgrading my computer. I would like to cut this down significantly, say to 3-4 hours if possible. Could anyone using similar settings and having a faster computer give me an idea of their times for encoding an hour of video and the system they are using in order to help me determine if upgrading will be worth it and also to see what level of system I need to shoot for. I am thinking about an Athlon XP 2200+ system on one of the new nForce2 boards but I am only doing it for the reduced encoding time so I need to know it will be worth it. I also would appreciate any suggestions that might speed up the process with my current setup. Thanks.

I'm using an Athlon XP 2000 with an Nforce2 based motherboard and in TMPGEnc I can encode an hour of video into 2-pass SVCD in about 2 hours, give or take a few minutes. In constant bitrate mode, for SVCD 1 hour of video takes me about 45-50 minutes

Takes me less than 30 minutes to encode a whole movie using NeoDVD Plus on my P4-2.53GHz/1GB/winXP system.

Had a 500mhz AMD with 256mb ram ....xVCD (mostly standard but with vbr and lower bitrates) took about 14 to 15 hours for a 90 minute flick using TMPG.
Now mostly the same...except 1.7ghz Celeron with 512mb of ddr mem....takes 2.5 to 3 hours for 90 minute flick. -
frameserved avi(640x480) to TMPGEnc VCD template w/deinterlace filther 21:18 in length. Took about 42 minutes if I remember correctly, but that was with motion search precision on highest quality. If it was set to normal. It would do it in about 25 minutes.
Computer specs A7N8X Deluxe, 2400+,2 dimms 256 corsair 3500. Btw, Divx encoding is Done faster than real time. About 40+ fps.Don't knock on deaths door, ring the doorbell and run, death hates that!
