I've ripped some dvd's then converted them to DIVX using mpeg mediator. If I configure the codec to crank up the bitrate, the result is phenominal, but it also spans 2 or more cd's. What I want to know is, how to get near dvd quality to fit on one cd, and/or what programs I should be using to achive this?
I have a side question also. When I crank up the video bitrate, on playback, if I let it play, everything works fine, but if I fast forward the movie, the audio gets out of sync, (audio further ahead). Why?
Thanks.

700MB divx files are very close to dvd quality (according to my eyes). So you don't have to crank the bitrate. But if you're talking about SVCD, your best bet it using 2 CDs.
