  1. I don't know how many of you have the Tritton Viper Drive (internal), but I'm thinking I may be the only idiot around here. I have been trying for nearly a month to burn a backup of anything, and I can't seem to make anything work.

Tritton included DVDxCOPY with the ViperDrive, but, number one, it's not really what I want and two, it doesn't do anything anyway. We mostly have episodic DVDs that I want to back up, from TV episodes to exercise videos. Trust me, I'd be happy if I could just fit one episode on one DVD. I don't care anymore!!!!!!!!

With DVDxCOPY, I just told it to get rid of all special features, and put 2 episodes onto 1 disk and 2 onto the other disk. It seems to look perfect, and at that point the split chapters option disappears, because it is splitting between two episodes. Even the burning process goes welll, but.... when I try to play my DVD, on my regular DVD Rom drive or on my ViperDrive, my computer freezes. The only thing I can do is turn it off. And if I leave the disk in, my computer won't boot. I've done this a trillion times now and used up over 10 DVD+Rs and a couple DVD+RWs burning several different movies. [my computer won't let me erase and reuse the +RWs because it freezes when i try to access the drive]

Also, i tried using SmartRipper and DVDx. I wanted to just get one episode at a time ( I dont know enough to do anything else... or anything for that matter). I ripped one episode tothe hard drive. When I play this back using WinDVD, everything seems perfect still. Then I would use DVDx to encode, using the instructions included. Well, when I play it back after this point, everything is all screwed up. Audio is out of synch and the video quality is horrible.

I hve just about every kind of freeware available downloaded at this point... I just bought a download to DVD2ONE, and am willing to buy InstantCopy. But would somebody please help me out. I need as much detail as anybody could possibly spare. I don't know any fancy tricks or what anything is called . I have tried contacting Tritton, but they won't help me with the software, because it's not their problem, and I've tried contacting 321 studios, but they've never replied or called me back.

Ok, I only put so much detail in here so you guys would know what I've done. Would appreciate anything. Oh, and I have been reading this forum the whole time, but there are quite a few things in each of the guides that confuse me.

    Thanks

  2. I'm not familiar with your viperdrive or DVDxCopy, but I have used DVDx before. It doesn't give a GREAT quality rip, but if you adjust the settings right it can give you a very DECENT quality video. There are settings in the input and output settings window that may need to be adjusted. When you call up these windows click the help button at the bottom of the screen. You will get suggested settings for optimizing quality. In the input window check the box that says "audio/video synchronization." This should help your sync problems. Also, be advised this program does not make standard DVD compliant files. It will make standard vcd and svcd files. You may be able to change that by changing the parameters. Change the output resolution to 720x480 if you are making an NTSC DVD. If it is a PAL disc use the appropriate resolution for that. In the audio section of the input window choose 48.0k HZ. These changes may help make your new file DVD compliant. I'm not sure because I've never done it before. I would also download DVDx2.2 from the tools section of this webpage. The author of the program says it now provides better quality backups than previous versions. Let me know how you make out.
