QT was just big. With DSL/cable, not so big of a problem. Quality is better than Real, just larger. You'll probably find most QT whiners are still using dial-up or don't care about quality. WMV is a good streaming competitor these days, and you'll actually find most sites give both options now, WMV or QT, at least trailer download sites. It also harder to encode a good QT file.

I think alot of people diss it because its related to Apple, and that there are alot of security restrictions. Quicktime also can take a while to load, on narrowband connected systems.
However, I have always found quicktime to be very superior to many other video codecs, if image quality is any concern. That was in the past though, now Real networks and ATI 9700 Pro shurestream, might be better quality at a smaller file size, but my real player plus 8.0 doesnt support it and 9.0 is a joke.
but in the last 3 years, quicktime hasnt crashed on me once.Computers -
If someone hates QuickTime, just ignore this alert.
There is a new QuickTime version 6.1 out now. Check out on : http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/

I agree that it is very good at what it does. It doesn't claim to be an advanced video editer, rather an easy way to get what you want. Plus it is great for converting from one format to another.

My two cents....
The same reason I do not like WMA.
It is driven by a company not a group creating a standard like MPEG2.
Technically it is fine. I find its performance much better on a MAC than a PC.
