  1. I just bought Sony DRU500AX and I want to copy some original PS2 disks for my son.
Could you please tell me if I have to use DVD Decrypter or copy the original DVD only using NERO?

  2. better use dvdecrypter with iso mode but you have to have a modchip for your ps2

not to be a curmudgeon but:

unless you are a stay-at-home dad with a lot of time on your hands and don't mind the very real cost of trial and error in terms of DVD-Rs, you will most likely decide that it is not worth the trouble.

many people have devoted weeks and months to getting this right, but very few get it to the point where they can do it reliably.

some games need patches, image files need to be stripped and filled, etc.

my advice would be to get a pre-modded PS2 (or have one professionally installed in yours) and buy your backups for $5-10 from various online sources. since you must use the absolute best media to do PS2 backups it will not be a huge difference in cost, and you will have saved a lot of frustration.

i too, wish it was as simple as copying dvds. i tried to do the PS2 thing as soon as I got my first burner.

unfortunately, Playstation games can very proprietary since Sony knows that you will never play a PS2 disc on anything other than a PS2.

dvd manufacturers need to adhere to a predetermined standard becasue there are hundreds of different dvd players and machines that need to be able to read them.

  9. I have a 500a. Its really simple, put the game in the 500a, open Nero, select dvd copy. That's all, it lets you know when to put in a blank. Thats for a dvd game, for a cd game use cd copy.

Flip top case with swap disks is now the easiest mod to get, its about $50 with disks, ONLY if you know your PS2 version.

  10. It's very easy to copy a PS2 game. The only thing that your PS2 needs is a modchip. I have a pioneer A04 and my PS2 have a Messiah chip. I use Instant CD+DVD to create a cue. file on my HD. Then burn the cue. file. Since a use Instant CD+DVD all my back-ups plays fine in any PS2 with a modchip. I use severall brands dvd-r like That's Write, Princo, Ritek and no problems.

Must disagree in the strongest terms PS2 are a breeze to backup as long as your PS2 is Mod Chipped the cheapest media has always worked fine for me on 100 + Backups

The best way to backup a PS2 game is with Record Now Max in the Global Image Profile takes 5 mins to create the image and 5 mins to burn
If you require detailed how to just PM me

  12. i second mrblond.

copying ps2 games is easy. put the ps2 game in dvd-rom, put blank in dvd-rw, and do a disc to disc copy in recordnow (prassi).

if you've got a modchip or fliptop/swapmagic, its very simple to play a backup.

the only thing you need to make sure you do is use quality discs.. i like verbatim dvd-r's (dvd+r's are cool too)

jeex, what's fliptop/swapmagic? will it let you play dvd-r backups without a chip? i have a ps2 and a burner, but cant get dvd-r game backups to play as modchips are hard to get in ireland. has anyone come up wuth a way to get dvd backups to work using some swap method and without the need for a modchip?

  14. the combo of putting a modified lid on your ps2 and using the swap magic discs will let you play backups of your ps2 games.

basically you boot up off the swap magic disc and it comes up with a screen that says "insert disc", you open the lid, take out the swap magic disc and put in your dvd-r, press any button on your controller and it starts up.

i purchased my fliptop & swap magic discs from chipzone.com

i dont believe they sell non-US swap magic discs, you'll probably have to purchase those from gamegizmo.com
