Unknown .avi?

I'm trying to use Virtual Dub to reduce the size of one of my .avi files. The only problem is that when I right click the avi file and try to get its details it tells me its an unknown format. Also when I try to load it with Virtual Dub I get an error too. So does anyone know what other formats besides divx .avi is? and how can I convert it? Thx.

Try loading the lataest codes. Kristal's (located under tools) is a good place to start. I used to have a lot of problems like that(still do), but most of them were fixed by loading new codecs.
