I was trying to back up a copy of Midway using DVD2SVCD (with TMPGEnc Plus 2.5) and when I viewed the final SVCD the film was stretched horizontally quite a bit. However, amazon.com says the disc is anamorphic widescreen and under the DVD2SVCD Conversion tab I selected "16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3)".
I've converted a number of other dvd's and have never had this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

That should be the right setting. Try others and use dvd2svcd's preview (under go-->preview video(still picture)). Also you could tweak Avisynth's add borders and resize commands under the frameserve tab.

I am not sure if this will help you....
but when I do a rip I follow the back of the DVD if it's a 4.3 source then I use that an16:9 etc for anamporhic I do the same I pick anamorphic and my result are great....although I really hate 16:9 and encode to 4:3 (which makes the picture look a bit squished but I can live with it)How long could we maintain? I wondered. How long until one of us starts raving and jabbering at this boy? What will he think then?

This is the only reason why i don't use dvd2svcd when using tmpgenc. There is a setting in tmpgenc that dvd2svcd does not give you. Under advanced tabs of tmpgenc. It is called video arrange method and if you select 'no margins (keep aspect ratio)' this will convert the amaphoric movie to fullscreen or a widescreen to amaphoric. It accomplishes this without stretching the picture by cutting off the sides of the movie. It does a great job. Dvd2svcd needs to get that setting in there.... if you want to know how to do it, go to http://entiendo.gotnet.net/ and look at the dvd makin' section
