Hey I was wondering if anyone can give me some info on the Advent 7012 laptop computer. I just bought it as PC World so I can copy my DVDs quicker. It has the P-4 2.6 processor. My question is, why the hell does the fan always stay on? I've only owned/used 2 other laptops before (Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 1.0GHz Celeron and FS Lifebook 1.4 P4) and the fans only kick in during high demand processing, like when using TMPGEnc. Yes i bought this computer to speed up my burning processes, but when I actually do use it for normal work, the constant drone of the fan is going to cause me to chuck myself in front of a Southwest train! I know these may be dumb questions, but is there way to change the fan seetings? Do i *really* want to, ie will it harm the computer? Do Advent computers suck? Any suggestions of better-for-my-money laptops?
Thanks in advance. I can be reached by email at brennan_macdougall@hotmail as well.

it is perfectly normal.. but if i were , i would get the Centrino processors that came out. You can go with them to 8 hours, thats way better for encodes..
But down to the facts...
the faster a processor is clocked..(Mhz/Ghz) the more heat it produces. Especially a 2.6 P4. the 1.4 may not produce much heat but as speed gets higher, you get more heat comming out so thats why the the fans run faster.
