  1. I just bought a KISS DP-450. Info is available here:

    http://www.kiss-technology.com/projects/dvd_450.asp?id=109

What I would like to know is, would I be able to burn a set of divx files to a DVD-R disc (using a Pioneer DVR AO5) and play them?

I cant see why not but then I just found out you cannot burn a (S)VCD formatted movie to a DVD as you would a CD-R (there goes my idea of putting 2-3 movies on 1 DVD-R!)

    Your feedback is appreciated.

  2. Good question so why not just give it a try using DVD+RW media so you don't waste a DVD?

BTW the Kiss player is not available in the USA as far as I can tell.

  3. Firstly I can only burn to DVD-R(W) with my DVD Burner, and secondly, you cannot actually use a DVD-RW without finalizing the data. Meaning that it then becomes Read Only, and cannot be written to or reformatted.

    I appreciate the ideas though.

BTW, I am actually in the UK, but I think you could buy the said DVD player directly fom KISS. though that may cost an arm and a leg in shipping.

    Thanks again

According to FAQ it should playback a Divx file off of DVD-R or -RW. Its actually a good thing you don't have a +R or +RW as its NOT supported!

You CAN rewrite DVD-RW up to 500+ times, even after you finalize it. Thats why they call it RW

  6. Oh, I thought once you finalised it you couldnt write to it anymore. Ill give it a whirl when I get the chance.

Another question. The player only supports DivX 4 and 5. I have a few DivX movies that are DivX 3 encoded. How do I update them to DivX 4 or 5?

    Thanks for the info.

    DivX 3.11 is supported, http://www.kiss-technology.com/news/content.asp?id=52

You need the latest firmware update.

  10. Baldrick,

That link isnt working for me. I would rather reencode to DivX 5 anyway. How do I do this?

    Thanks again.

Virtualdub: Video full processing mode, Compression Divx 5, Audio direct stream copy, Save Avi.

BTW there is always a loss when converting. 8)
