  1. I have a couple Divx movies that I would like to convert to CVD files so it can play on my DVD player. I am using TMPGEnc to encode these files. The movie is supposed to be 16:9 aspect ratio and I am hoping to convert it to 4:3 WITH the black bars on the top and on the bottom. After conversion, it would give me a non-cropped 4:3 movie without the black bars, so the picture looks like its been squished. I've tried changing the aspect ration under Video to 16:9, the movie would come out looking fine, but it won't play correctly on my Apex 1500. I've also tried changing the Source aspect ratio from 1:1 VGA to 16:9, but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

  2. If your source is DivX then the source aspect ratio should be set to 1:1. ALL PC video data (should) have a DAR of 1:1. Here's what you do:

    1) Run TMPGenc and load up your desired template
    2) Click on settings, then click on the advance tab
    3) Set video source to 1:1 VGA, output to 4:3 NTSC TV, and Video Arrange Method to 'full screen (keep aspect ratio)'

This will encode a MPEG with the video centered, and black bars at the top/bottom of the screen to prerserve the aspect ratio.

    1:1 - PC video
    4:3 - standard TV
16:9 - widescreen TV and film

However, under the '16:9' flag you'll find:
    1.77:1 - widescreen/HDTV
    1.85:1 - academy flat
    2.35:1 - anamorphic widescreen
