I have this one movie its an avi(XviD) format and I wanted to make a VCD but when I load the movie into TMPGEnc my computer crashes and no Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't help. I have the latest verion of TMPGEnc and I never experienced this problem, I've done tons of VCDs.

  2. Could be the audio. D/load GSpot (see the tools section or try doom9.org) and see what the audio is (I suspect AC3 or MP3). Either way you might want to extract the audio to a wav file, then encode the video and audio seperately.

I did that I used VirtualDub and saved the audio as wav. Also I scanned the avi and saved a new copy. But the same porblem occurs.

Did you check for bad frames?

Yes there were no bad frames, and I also used DivFix just in case. It didn't report any bad frames. If there were bad frames TMPGEnc will crash whenever it reaches a bad frame. But in my case TMPGEnc crashes when I load the file in the template, which means the encoding hasn't started yet.

Have you tried de-installing TMPGEnc an then re-installing again? Also, have you tried other versions of TMPGEnc? What version of TMPGEnc are you using?

I have the latest version fo TMPGEnc and I tried re-installing it maybe more than five times. I also tried re-installing all my codecs a few times. Than I got so pissed of that I formatted my hard drive and installed everything from scratch, because someone told me it could be an illegal codec that's causing the problem. But no I still have the same problem just with that one movie, all my other movies that I have work perfectlly. Than I also thought that the movie might be corrupted so I downloaded again. And I still get the same problem.

DivXFix has problems, I have horrible time converting anything it's been run on.

Use the FourCC changer (downlaod section) and make the video/audio both say divx . This workaround should solve any TMPG problems. Also make sure your FFDSHOW priority is +2 and everything else is 0 or below.

    Yes I agree with Gazorgan,

I was trying to encode an Xvid file for 2 weeks without any success. Tried everything mentioned in this forum. Then tried what Gazorgan suggested downloaded FourCC changer and ffdshow and I encoded the file without a problem. I can't beleive how simply it was.

    Cheers

Versions later than TMPGenc 2.57 have issues. Try to get 2.57 and post if you get the same problems. Search Kazaa for it if you cannot find a web download on the older version.

I thought that v2.58 was supposed to be the most stable of the last several versions!??

I'm using TMpgEnc Plus v2.58.44.152, and it works for me (ie. not crashing), but if the consensus is that there is a better TMpgEnc version with the fewer bugs, maybe I should be using that one instead.

It still doesn't work. There is probably someting wrong with the movie so I'll just move on into downloading something else.
