  1. I downloaded a movie that says it's a .Divx.AVI file. The file refuses to play. I have installed the latest Divx Codec and Nimo Codec Pack. In windows media player when I try to open the file, I get a message "Cannot playback file format not supported". When I check the properties of the file it says that the file is invalid or corrupted. When I try to play the file on Divx player 2.0, it says: "will not open, check if it is a valid AVI file". I did not know if the file was broken so I tried Divx Fix and it said the file was not an AVI. I tried G spot to find out what type of file it was and it said that the file was not a valid AVI file. Can anybody shed any light on this problem? Is this file junk???

    Thanks,

    TC

The movie most likely is an ASF file. You should never download fakes.

Use Avipreview to check out the file during the D/L, it's in the Tools section.

    ASF:

Advanced Streaming Format (ASF): This file format stores audio and video information, and it is specially designed to run on networks like the Internet. This file format is a highly flexible and compressed format that contains streaming audio, video, slide shows, and synchronized events. When you use .asf files, content is delivered to you as a continuous flow of data. You no longer have to wait for your audio and video files to fully download before you start to view them. When an Audio Video Interleave (.avi) file is compressed and converted to an .asf file, the file begins playing after only a few seconds. The file can be unlimited in length and can run over Internet bandwidths.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P
