I know when a product is initially released, there are usually some bugs in the first batch of players made. The most recent models usually have these bug problems solved. The DMR-E30 that I just bought was manufactured in JUNE 2002. The previous one I had was in the FALL of 2002. I haven't had any problems in the 4 discs that I have burned and finalized so far (all Verbatims, of course). After having 2 DMR-E30s, I didn't even know that the fan was even used on these units b/c you can't even hear it. The only way you know it's on is when you place your hand behind it (you can feel the hot air being pulled out) or you aim a flash light at it in order to see the fan spinning.

I just got my DMR-E30 and it was manufacturered October 2002.
I have had it turn itself off when recording to one DVD-R Disc I got at WalMart - but the mulk Accu discs I got (79 cents shipped) are working fine.
