Sony DRU500AX

About two weeks ago I bought my DRU500AX. I installed it according to the manuals and everything, but the drive is not working properly. When I insert a CD or DVD (including the software DVD that came with the drive) I can see all the files in the CD or DVD, but I can't open or run any of them. I also can't play any DVD movies: when I try to do so, some strange stripes appear all over the screen and, after a few seconds, the computer crashes and I get a blue screen. What's weird is that all the CDs and DVDs work perfectly well with my other DVD-ROM drive.

I also can't record any DVD or CD. In the end of the burning process I always get a message saying that what was recorded to the CD or DVD doesn't correspond to the original files (or something like that).

I've already contacted Sony online support many times and they were everything but helpful. I ran their diagnostic test and the test results always say that the drive passed the writing and reading tests but failed the media test. I've tried with many different kinds of media, all of them among the ones that they recommend and I always got the same results. I told this to them and they told me to update my BIOS and my motherboard drivers. I did what they told me and it made no difference. I told this to them and they basically stopped giving me support (not officialy, but they won't give me any suggestions of what to do).

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I just don't know what to do anymore.

I bought one a few weeks ago and it works perfectly; as suggested, I would take it back for an exchange asap.
