does anyone know if the drive from a DVD player is IDE interface, if it is, is it 40 or 50 pin? If not what interface is it?

SOME of the players use a standard IDE drive. And if it is IDE then it must have 40 pins. The only way to tell is take the machine apart and look.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
