  1. Is it possible to convert a .divx movie to DVD. Please notice that we are talking about a file with a .divx file extension (not .avi).

VirtualDub and TPMGEnc does not recognize the file.

Your film's file extension isn't DivX, it's probably .avi.
DivX is the type of compression used.

While it says .divx, it's truly an AVI. Some OGG files are like that, it's sort of a way to to help you identify the file. But it only works if you associate the .divx extension with your media player do double click, otherwise you have to do the file/open.

  5. The file HAS a .divx extension. It's not an .avi. It is downloaded as a VOD movie.

And by the way, I have no problem playing the file on my PC (I use the DivX Player ver. 1.0). I want to rip it to mpeg.

Renaming the file to .avi does not solve my problem.

I'm not familiar with VOD I'm afraid, is it a time limited downloaded film?.
Is there protection to stop you encoding it?.

Guesses, all of them but one things for sure......DivX is a codec.

I'm going to learn something from this post, sorry I can't be of any more help.
