Are you capturing at you highest resolution possible?
Hello. -
done at 320 x 240 pal. when i try to go larger (and what size should I use) i get an error message 418 unsupported, any idea why.

It might help a whole lot if you used no compression.Originally Posted by zappfra

Sounds like you have a Bt848 based capture card. You have to turn overlay mode off in order to be able to capture any higher than 352x288 resolutions in VirtualDub. Even better, turn even the Preview mode off (and capture blindfolded), CPU usage is much lower.done at 320 x 240 pal. when i try to go larger (and what size should I use) i get an error message 418 unsupported, any idea why.
If your source is PAL, capture at full PAL resolution (720x576) and 25 fps. Capture using a low compression codec (huffuv, PicVideo Mjpeg @ Q 19/20) and convert to DivX or whatever you want to only afterwards.
