Use TMPGenc to open the MPEG file on the VCD. It is under the MPEGAV folder and will be a *.dat file. Then convert it to dvd.

hi m8 right the first thing to do is make sure the vcd are worth putting on dvd e.g quality of vcd cos no point in wasteing time if its going to be a crap out put then if it is ok

    1. download vcdgear rip the dat file from cd to mpeg 1 on to hardrive takes only about 10 mins then do the same with disk 2

2.then get a program called vcd cutter and join the 2 mpeg 1 files together
you can find out how to use vcd cutter on here just do a search for it

the you should end up with one big mpeg one file then load tmpenc up and load the dvd template for pal or ntsc what ever you want then click start(best to do this over night as can take awile ) then when finish use spruce up to authorise the dvd(you can find out how to use spruce up on this site) then burn to dvd with nero or similar program and thats it this way has worked for me many times

    hope this helps m8

You most certainly should not load the mpeg into TMPGenc using a DVD template. This will re-encode the video. VCD resolution is DVD compliant, requiring you to only resample the audio for DVD. You do use TMPGenc to demux your video and audio into seperate streams though. From TMPGenc, go to FILE | MPEG TOOLS. Select the Simple Demultiplex tab. Browse to your merged MPEG. It should automatically populate the output filenames for both audio, and video. Click Run. This will produce an M1V (video) file, and a MP2 (audio) file. You must convert the MP2 audio file from 44.1Khz, to 48Khz. You can do this with SSRC (find it in the TOOLS section). You must first convert your MP2 to WAV, and then convert it to 48Khz with SSRC. Then either convert it to AC3/MP2, or optionally, just leave it as a WAV file it it will fit on the DVD (it should, as your VCD mpeg will be tiny). Drop your final original M1V video file and your new 48Khz audio file into any DVD authoring program to author to DVD.

As DJRumpy had mentioned, see here for the guide as well.

The user community never ceases to amaze me. This tools will do exactly what I described above, albeit in a more automatic fashion. It will avoid re-encoding, so it looks like a good option. I've never used it though. Perhaps ChrissyBoy can tell you how well it works. I would think that no patching is necessary for VCD to DVD, since the resolution is already compliant, where SVCD would of course, need the header trick.

Its very easy really. just get your vcd mpegs or .bin images into a working directory. Point svcd2dvdmpg at it. Choose the settings for VCD (DJRumpy: no patching will occur), decide whether you want program or elementry streams. Then start, go & have a coffee & a fag. Return to the PC & author your DVD!!

In terms of success: if you have good sources (i.e. not been joined/edited (adverts removed) etc) you can expect near 100%. Bad sources may reduced this number mainly resulting in AV sync issues. Your choice of authoring software is quite key also. See site for details.

I'm new to DVD-R, but I have been creating VCDs for years.
I just got my dvd-r drive and would like to do what is said above,
once I have my files audio converted, is there a way to burn this using NERO 5.5.10 ?

  10. I use Ulead VideoStudio($99USD):approx. 4hrs from VCD to DVD.
Using Ulead MovieFactory($49) you can put 3-4 VCD's on one DVD with a menu:4-12hrs depending on how many movies are on DVD.

It sounds like ULead also re-encodes, which is a bad idea. VCD should only have the audio resampled, taking about 5-10 minutes. I would go with ChrissyBoy's suggestion.

Ulead products use"smart-render" and will only render the audio,I factored in burning time in my figures.
