JDaCunha is absolutely correct. It's funny b/c none of the employees were aware of this or they were acting like I didn't know what I was talking about. I purchased 2 today and I will return them & buy them back, then, I will get the rebate. They only had nine 15 Pack of DVD-Rs, so, I wasn't going to take any chances. That's incredible when you can get namebrand DVD-Rs for about the same or even less than some cheap DVD-Rs. Here is a photo indicating both DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs. Get down to Best Buy tomorrow while you can

Yes its true, Im looking in the BestBuy paper right now and they have DVD+r and DVD-R $44.99 -$7.00 instant rebate = $37.99 -$8.00 Mail-in rebate - $10.00 Mail-in rebate = $19.99. Final Price

Verbatim is the only DVD media that I use and have no complaints, great playback on all 3 of my dvd players and my PS2 and XBOX.

  4. that's 1.34/each, the price is unbeatable. ritek is like 1something/each for 2x, we're paying for 2.4x yeahhhhhhhh. :P

  5. ouch... REBATES ... they suck and its a multiple mail in rebate.

Heh, so like maybe you'll get one mail in rebate back, but in reality probably none and they will probably give you the run around when you complain you didnt receive your rebate offer

  6. Wow, I have been collecting rebate checks from various manufacturers over the years, and I have NEVER had a problem getting my money. If you don't mind me asking, who stiffed you out of one? Bob's rebate emporium?

Same here. In this case, even if you don't get it, that's still $37.99 for 15 which is already cheaper than any place selling them on the internet.

You might want to rephrase that
I am sure you have always gotten your money, but I would leave out the "NEVER had a problem" part if I were you.
This leads people to think that ALL rebates easily get approved.
You only have to look at the numerous posts in the rebate forums at some of the hot deals sites to see this is far from true.

Unless you haven't done a lot of rebates, there are invariably cases where problems arise:
    Some examples -
    - small mfrs go bankrupt,
    - submissions are mysteriously lost (even though sent via certified mail), and the most common causes are
    - mistakes by the rebate center (saying "wrong UPC", even though you sent the correct one, "Wrong purchase date", even though you enclosed a screen shot showing that the order was submitted within the promotion, but because staples.com is closed Satruday as far as processing orders is concerned, they put Sunday as the order date, which is one day after the promotion).
    - delays (in some cases rebates take 4 - 6 months instead of 6 - 10 weeks...)

I have gotten a rebate check for almost every rebate promotion I ever participated in (I didn't bother, a few years ago, with a few small multiple Fuji and TDK $10 - rebates, where the mfr stated that 3 or 4 submissions were allowed per person, but the rebate center failed to recognzied that. I received one per promotionm, and didn't bother to fight).
HOWEVER, getting all those checks, in some cases, involved having to call the rebate center multiple times etc....

Just be sure to photocopy and document everything...
I keep a special folder at home with all my rebate submission photocopies in it.

This Verbatim offer is a prime example:
The two Verbatim $10 offers (DVD-R and DVD+R) have different offer numbers. So far so good!
However, the two accompanying BestBuy $8 offers (same DVD-R and DVD+R as above) share the same offer number, unlike the mfr rebates!!
The rebate center told me this would not be an issue, since the SKUs are different. Some people have had their rebates rejected by BestBuy for this exact reason, however, so beware!!

BestBuy also rejected rebates in the past few days: People had done a PriceMatch on a mouse; they were sent letters after their rebate submissions were received by BestBuy stating that they weren't going to be getting their rebate checks, because the PriceMatch invalidated the rebate.

So there are risks and problems!
Many TV shows have done news reports on this. They sent in a random sampling of rebate submissions, and the results weren't exactly great...

I am not against rebates at all, in fact I have done many, but I just don't want rebate newbies who read your post thinking it will always be easy

  9. First, I would be very careful with those Verbatim DVD+R's. I personally believe they have a flaw when burning over 4.2 GB's. Towards the end of "some" of the DVD+R's you will experience this issue. It's possible it was just the THREE seperate spindles I purchased a while back, but that is doubtful. I think that is why even LONG before this rebate, Best Buy was offering a 50 pack of these 2.4x DVD+R's for $99, while they still have two packs of the 15 pack spindles of the SLOWER 2x DVD-R's at almost the same price. BEWARE

Now, as far as Rebates go. I agree with VEFF. To say anyone has NEVER had a problem would probably be a very inaccurate statement. I too have ALWAYS gotten my rebate..but some rebates require you to have to stay on top and get shitty with a rep with one of the companies. Rebateshq.com is notorious for their games..but in the next week when I get my $50 SONY burner Rebate, I'll maintain my 100% status for Rebates. Another thing to note is that Verbatim was most recent in trying to play silly stunts with my $7 MIR.

I sent it in on those DVD+R's I purchased about 2 months ago, and two weeks later they sent me a postcard saying the rebate was ONLY for DVD-R's. I called them up and told them I had my receipt and that they would have to either pay me my rebate of $7 or i'd call Best Buy and have them deal with them directly. Either way, I was going to get my $7. The guy said, oh, i'm sorry, I just looked on my system and you received that postcard in error. The rebate was for BOTH...DVD-R "AND" DVD+R. I said..yea...just send me my MONEY! Four weeks later..my $7 POSTCARD/CHECK appeared in my mail box.

  10. I second the caution about the Verbatim having flaws after (in my case) 4GB. I bought three packs and every one of them had bubbles or disc separations near the edges. I wasted three of them before I discovered the real problem. Finally I was able to use the disc but only for files under 3.9GB. So much for name brand media.

Yep, some people just don't get it in their thick skulls. I've continuously posted about this problem with Verbatim and have actually seen other posters comment on it and then go out as if they didn't read my post to begin with. This forum is to help people, but some just won't get it no matter what they read. I promise that they will get it when they eventually sit down and actually start to watch their hoarded DVD collection. I've even been shocked to read that a couple of the extremely knowledgable people on this forum continue to say if you pay for expensive media such as Verbatim, then you won't have problems. LOL....Verbatim knows those DVD+R disks don't meet standards and have issues...that's why they are dirt cheap compared to the DVD-R's they sell.

It isn't just a miracle that a disk which is on average more expensive across the globe and which burns at 2.4x, is less then half the price of the "slower" disk. I learn lessons fast, and learned my lessons with those disks. I now only purchase the manufactured ID "SONY" "NO NAME BRAND" disks, and haven't looked back burning at 2x since. Buy up all those DVD+R's..but BEEEEWARREEE.

For a minute there, you had me worried. However, I don't buy DVD+Rs. The DVD-Rs have all worked out for me. I purchased 4 of those 15 PKs plus one 3 PK. Too bad the DVD+R seem to have those issues. If I were you guys I would take them back to BB and demand an exchange or return.

I used 2 15 pack spindles of the VERBATIM DVD-R's a few months ago, and they ALL burned flawlessly.

Once I realized this issue was only with a couple of disks in the 15 pack spindle, it was too late. I had already burned 10 or so. I wasn't gonna bother when the other 12 were fine. I just chalked it up as a learning experience and NEVER purchased another Verbatim DVD+R disk again, nor will I purchase anymore Verbatim DVD+R disks.

  15. Umm, must be YOUR burner with probelms with verbatuims cause I have used 2 15 packs and 6 25 packs of verbatuims without one problem, had more problems with Riteks DVD-R's about 2-4 bad discs invery 50 pack.

Nope not the burner as I can see the flaws on the edges of the discs I bought so I just record in the area that doesn't have the bubbles or layer separations.

  17. I have burned almost 200 Verbatim DVD+R discs from Best Buy. The purple discs, $99 for 50 pack.

All discs have burned without error and the movies all played fine to the end of the disc.

I am used a Sony DRU-500A with 1.0f or 2.0e firmware, and Nero Burning ROM v5.5.10.7b, or v5.5.10.14 to burn the discs. Many discs were the full capacity after DVD2ONE processed them to 4.36 GB.

So, no problems seen with Verbatim DVD+R's.

  18. Bob W don't bother with thxkiddo. There stories change like the weather. ONe day they praise DVD-R's, the next day they bash them. Their mommy shoulda named them Jekyl & Hyde. Their posts have ZERO credibility, so don't waste your time.
