When I encode using Tmpeg it leaves a kind of interlace effect on the image is there a setting I need to tick to reduce this???.

Are you talking displaying to a computer monitor, or encoding to VCD or SVCD and displaying on a TV. If you are encoding to MPEG strictly for display on a computer monitor, or for VCD, have you tried applying a deinterlace filter?
