  1. I have a Cendyne DVR-105 installed (secondary master) in a ShuttleX with a 2.4ghz P4, 512MB DDR 2100, 60GB HD running Windows XP Pro. The system recognizes the drive as a DVR-105 and playback of DVDs and CDs are fine. The problem is when I try to use recording software like Nero, Easy CD Creator, and Recordmax Now, progress stops at about 7% everytime. I know the drive is Ok because the recording feature in XP can record to the disks when I drag and drop files into the disk plus all the mentioned software can erase the CD-RW/DVD-RW with no problems. Also I installed it into another computer and it works fine. I know this particular forum states that there shouldnt be posts about recording problems but I think this is hardware related since the drive works on another system and the topic didnt seem to fit in any other forum. I've emailed Cendyne with absolutely no response in 2 weeks. Im hopeing someone here may have the answer to this problem. Any help is appreciated.

  2. Have you tried a different spot on your IDE controller card in the PC. This may sound strange but I was having similar problems, I have a Pioneer 105 drive that kept causing Nero to crash on the CHECKING DISKS screen when buring DVDs. It would work fine for CD-R buring though. Also other DVD buring programs would work before. So I decided to change from one IDE slot to another and now everthing works. Weird. Just an idea.

  3. Checnge your IDE cable's. I had a problem burner Data with NEro then I installed Easy CD creator and it fixed the Nero problem I think it install aspi driver's or some thing. If that does not work format and install a fresh OS and see if you still have the problem and set the drive to master. MY AO4 is set to slave and I have no problem's so I would say slave is fine but I would set it to slave to get rid of all the bug's

  5. I have the same drive and have no problems.

You can have it as a slave drive but it is better if the drive is set to master and is the only drive on the cable.

When You moved it from the 1 pc to another did you use the same cable? possibly the cable is bad and need a new one, also did you think about heat issues in the case? Are the 2 cases different in size and 1 may have better airflow?

  6. Zameis, on both systems the drive was set to secondary master and was the only drive connected to the ide controller but they did use different cabels. I dont think it was a heat or airflow problem because I had the case off at the time and the ShuttleX has a unusual cooling system that keeps the system pretty cool. Its kinda like a radiator inside of the system. Seems that the cable may be the culprit. Gonna use a different cable and let you know.
Does anyone one know if it could be the firmware of either the DVD recorder or the firmware on the board? The DVR-105s firmware is v.1.00.
    Thanks.

  7. Check your ASPI layer also. I had the same problem right after I upgraded to the latest Adaptec ASPI. O formatted and everything worked fine so I installed the ASPI again just to see what would happen and it broke again.

By the way, I have the same burner on the Primary IDE as a slave drive.

  8. What media are you using? Is it by chance Princo 1x dvd-r media that you have this problem with? My Cendyne 105 with 1.0 firmware refuses to burn this media.. It always screws up right near the beginning of burning the disks.. My 104 (1.31fw) burns these disks perfect everytime.. If I use Princo G03 or G04's my cyndne works perfect everytime.. At first I didn't know what was wrong but later found out it didn't like the media for some reason.. I haven't tried upgrading the 105 to newer firmware yet as it's in a firewire case and I would have to remove it and put it on an IDE chain to upgrade it I beleive.

Maybe this is your problem also? Just a thought..

  9. Balugabutt, actually the first app I used was Nero and had that problem so I thought that it might be the fact that I didnt have the ASPI drivers installed so I updated the latest off Adaptecs site with the same results. I was wondering when you wrote "O formatted", do you mean reformat the hard drive and reinstall a fresh system? Thanks.

spudz2, the problem happens on any media, including CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW. As far as the dvd-r media I used LEDA (which is basically Princo) and Ritek. Im using firmware 1.00 also and have not had problems with the LEDA disks however I've read on another forum that the firmware for a wide variety of media on the 105 is v.58. Heres the link....

About 1/3 down the thread a user named "Hunter_Randon" explains about the different firmware compatibility with medias. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for both of your suggestions.
