I'm having a problem with my ATI TV Wonder card - the sound stops after about a minute...
I noticed it after starting a two hour capture (VDub) from the composite input and leaving it, only to come back when it was finished and finding I only have 1 minute of sound for my 2 hour video.
Since then I have verified it happens even when just watching TV (I've tried DScaler and PowerVCR II). It happens with composite input or tuner input. It happens whether I use the internal (AUX) connection to my sound card or the external line-out to sound card line-in connection. The sound card seems to be ok because I otherwise get sound from other apps with no problem. I've checked and re-checked mixer settings, all ok...
I can't think of anything that has changed on my system. I use the BT8x8 WDM drivers from SourceForge.net and haven't had a problem up until now. I did reinstall the drivers, but no help. If I re-access the audio settings from within my tv / capture apps, it seems to reset the sound input and it works again for another minute or so, then stops.
To me it *feels* like my TV Wonder has crapped out. Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Just two more bits of info as a bump then I'll let it go....
1 - If I change channels (again using PowerVCR II) the sound comes back, but again only for a minute or so.
2 - I have removed and reseated the card, as well as moved it to another PCI slot, and that didn't help.
Thanks... -
Hi,
I have the same card and same problem. I don't think its a bad card but rather a universal problem w/ the card. Solutions I have found include pressing setup in powervcr. Also try routing the sound through a different source. IE the auxillary on your sound card or using the cd audio cable. -
I use the auxilary input on my sound card and have no problems. Is it possible that a screen saver or other application is starting up and interfering with the sound on your TV card? You'd be amazed at how often screen savers and the like kill perfectly good apps. Power management settings might also be a factor.
I admit that niether of these is likely, but it might be worth looking into. I wouldn't automatically assume the problem is in the TV card. It's more than likely in another area... a new screen saver... a new program recently installed, etc.
Think back to any changes you've made to your system lately and the answer may come there. Otherwise, maybe the card really IS crapping out. Have you tried ATIs website? Maybe there are some "known issues" you could find out about?
Just some suggestions! Good luck and let us know how you make out!

Thanks for the help...I think I have identified the problem, it is related to "Norton Internet Security" which I have loaded recently. When I shut it down (more specifically, when I use task mamanger to end the ccapp.exe because I can't find any other way to kill it), the problem goes away. I need to take some more time to verify that, but Norton Internet Security seems to be the culprit. Should have stuck with ZoneAlarm.

Dang, that's definitely it and it also applies to Norton Antivirus 2003. That's why it just started happening out of the blue, LiveUpdate downloaded a new ccApp.exe and that does it. I would like feedback from others running Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security with a ccApp.exe dated version 1.03.15 date 11/15/2002. This is what is interfering with my ATI TV Wonder. But why? Why does anitvirus software care about my TV Tuner, or any hardware for that matter? Dang, that just sucks.

when capturing, especially with that card, make sure all unnecessary things are not running. norton antivirus included. disconnect from the internet or your network. create a hardware profile disabling all unnecessary hardware. under no circumstance use a screensaver (unless you are using a monitor from the 80's or early 90's, screensavers are pointless even though they might look cute). disable all power management.
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler. -
That's good advice and I do disable most of that stuff (except power management, hadn't thought of that one) when I'm capturing, but not when I'm just watching TV.
But here is the final update, I finally nailed it down...the problem comes when you are running Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security 2003 (with the latest ccapp.exe) ALONG with MSN Messenger 5.0. NAV/NIS 2003 has an option to protect IM clients and by default it is enabled for any IM client that is installed at the time you install NAV or NIS. When you disable that protection, the problem goes away. There is actually a knowledge base article on Symantec's website that tells you NIS/NAV will not work with MSN Messenger 5.0, but you have to manually disable it.
Just FYI and I appreciate the input from the forum... -
Many thanks for the fix. The Norton/MSmsg bug also knocks out the sound on Leadtek's WinfastTV2000XP Deluxe. Went nuts trying to trouble shoot, reseating, reinstalling, etc. until I searched your posts.
Thanks again
