  1. OK I was having trouble converting a Divx file I have to SVCD/VCD.

The audio was AC3 and I eventually figured out how to get that from AC3 to MP2 and then I converted it to WAV...

After that I went to load the DIVX file as the video source and the WAV file as the audio source...I went through the usual step on the wizard and when I went to begin all it does is freeze...didn't even do anything...it just freezes and stops. I've tried it about 5 different times, it either freezes my computer or just stops or something. I have converted stuff in TMPGEncoder before and it works usually but for whatever reason this is not working. (I'm not really smart with anything divx, obviously)

I even tried just attempting to convert a small section of it (about 1000 frames)...when I began doing it, the error "Index of scan line is out of range(336)"

I am pretty sure that it has nothing to do with the audio file...but something to do with the divx file, if anyone could just point me in the right direction with a link or something then I would greatly appreciate it.

(Also sorry if I mislooked something in the FAQ section of the site or if this is in the wrong forum...)

Can you play the file on your PC? Can you play the Wav file?
Maybe a codec problem, Gspot helps with that.

Is you are using TMPG, please let me make a suggestions, and let you know how I use TMPG when I have converted Divx to SVCD.

    1. I bring the DIVX into VDUB. Then in virtualdub, I would click on file information and jot down or copy and paste that screen somewhere so I know what exactly is on the DIVX. If there are some issues and Virtualdub can't read it, I know I have do something else with it. Run something like Divxfix and have it rebuild the index. Some people do that every time before encoding a DIVX file.

    2. I then create a wav file from the DIVX, by selecting Audio, Full processing Mode. I then make sure that in the audio choices in Vdub, that there is no compression selected. I also will l.ook into Conversion in Audio and select 44,100 is it is not selected, 16 bit, Stereo and click on High Quality.

    3. Then I exit Audio, fo to File, then Save Wav.

    4. Then on to TMPG, where I usually don't use the Wizard at all, click on Load and select the profile that matched the charactoristics of the Divx file as Vdub has told me earlier.

    5. I usually do the 2-pass thing with 2530, 1800, 1100 as my selections, or sometimes use a calculator and select constant quality. Depends if I want to control the size or not.

    6. I always select "full screen, keep aspect ratio", and I happen to use slow, rather than very slow for the encoding speed.

    7. I have Toolame loaded as a Environmental Setting, in Audio, MPEG1 audio Layer II encoder. I point to where I have toolame.exe on my PC.

    8. I forgot to add that before I enter TMPG, I always reboot, just to make sure that there is no garbage lingering around my RAM.

    9. Then I select the .AVI as my video file and the .WAV as my video file and start.

I don't know if you know all of this already or not. If you have more questions let me know.

I have to admit that I currently am using Mainconcept now mostly because I am totally in love with the speed and still getting excellent quality.

Just a thought...and this may not be the answer...but are you sure that your movie is in DivX format and not Xvid? I ask this because I sometimes get that error message when trying to encode an Xvid movie.....also I find that most movies with AC3 sound seem to be Xvid rather than DivX.

If it is Xvid then you can usually solve the problem by using the fourCC changer program in the Xvid folder in your program files (aviC.exe) to change it to DivX...it doesn't actually change it to DivX but it makes TMPGenc THINK its a DivX and it usually works OK then.

    antoniosgubba,

Very good point. That is why I always open the Divx up in VirtualDub and select File Information. Then I will see what the story is.
