I've recently installed ForceASPI 1.7 on my PC, because as its running XP it was missing an ASPI layer...
However I've since ripped several DVDs to my HD and noticed that the average rip time has increased to about 35-40mins per movie, whereas before the ASPI install, it was averaging about 15-20mins...

Has anyone else experienced an increase in RipTimes after installing an ASPI layer (or specifically ForceASPI 1.7)?? Or can anyone provide an explaination...? Or does anyone have anything to add to this

If I uninstall it, I'm still getting the increased riptimes....?!?!

I'm running on Windows 2K SP3. Have used XP for a couple of weeks before that.

Under XP, I did install the Adaptec aspi drivers (don't really understand why they are needed). Ripping speed was about 5x with Smartripper.

I then formated over XP and re-installed W2K to save my mental health. Don't know how, but one of the programs I installed gave me an ASPI layer. Ripping speeds were about 5x ~ 9x average.

I very recently (yesterday) re-installed W2K to get rid of a mess several codecs I installed created. I now don't have an ASPI layer (as Smartripper repeatedly points out). Ripping speed (with SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter) are about 5x ~ 9x again on average.

I remember, in my previous W2K configuration, that SmartRipper was somewhat faster than DVDDecrypter. Can't be too certain about it as DVDDecrypter gives an average ripping speed while SmartRipper keeps on peaking between 3x and 15x with an average (observed not measured) of 5x~9X. In my current system, without the ASPI layer, DVDDecrypter appears a little faster.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
