Vance,
3.9GB is not real bad but I think IC is really gonna shine if I can use it for movie only and use up all the size.
MisterX,
Yes Road to Perdition is one of the movies I have had problems with. The others were Bourne Identity, The Ring and K-19.

I have Road to Perdition here, is it Region 1?
can you tell me the fault?
have you read the thread
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=150035 about what to look out for?
I cracked the Simpson's no bother so I guess I'll look at RTP now, but it would be nice if you tell me if and when the problem occurs and if you are removing any titles and what % settings you are using and I will try and sort out a fix for you
I have IC on it's knees -
bob w i swear if u do my way https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/147636.php the longest it ever took me was 121 minutes in ic7 time and about 90-100 minutes in real time. i probaly won't invest in dvd 95 copy because in a couple of month ic7 will probaly be faster and i've spent enough money into dvd 9 to5 burning.
here a trick if u want dvd9 to5 superfast burning and 100% video quality all the time and u don't want to spend no more money althrough it takes 2 discs. rip the movie in file mode with smartripper, figure out how many of the vob files will fit on one 4.7 disc and put them in one folder, then put the other vobs in another folder. use ifo edit to create ifos for first folder, then rename the vob files in the other folder (example vts_01_5,vts_01_6,vts_01_7 rename vts_01_1,vts_01_2,vts_01_3 ) next create ifos for the second folder and burn with your favorite program (it what i call dvdxcopy for free. it's kinda what they do)
now dvd 95 copy is probaly faster and u probaly will never use this. but i just threw that out there because that was one of my tricks to burn dvds before ic7 came out. shoot i used to mix different dvd stuff at the end the second disc like old sanford and son episodes that i had on store brought dvds. and i know dvd 95 copy can't do that (mix diffent dvd movies that is) -
if anyone wants just the movie only then use DVDtoolbox as mrbass shows howto in his excellent guide
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdtoolbox/
though I would only rip the main movie IFO/BUP/VOB's and VIDEO_TS.IFO/BUP and use that in DVDtoolbox and just strip audio/subs streams cos it does the job great and keeps all chapters and even tells you whether what you have selected will fit into 4.37GB
all done in the space of 15-20mins depending of DVDROM rip speed and processor/HD power -
MakemX,
I saw the post to late so I wasn't able to see if the sizes were wrong.
Road to Perdition region 1 is the movie.
I used DVDToolbox to strip and had a 4.78GB striiped movie. IC with the slider at 99% gives me a 3.12GB movie. -
that might be your problem straight away. you are giving IC a program you have modded and chances it's been done incorrectly as IC is probably seeing the complete size of the original DVD but isn't showing it to you and then its using these phantom MB's due to info still left in the IFO's to create 'phantom' space! cos the VOB's aint there anymore
so what did you strip out using DVDToolbox and I will try to recreate it but I will also check the IFO's that DVDToolbox creates
just the main movie file obviously, but what audio & subs?
DVD is ripped and ready to go, tell me the steps and I will try to spot how it fails -
MackemX i not trying to change the subject but
u seem well verse on dvd burning. would u happen to know how to make a temp directory for dvd movies like gear pro's. one that when u delete movie files it takes everything with it.
i have gear pro upstair on my wifes computer, but it conflict with other cd/dvd burning software down here on my computer (nero it works with nero on her conp but not mine). i was using a fix-it utilitie to clean up my registry and i spent the better part of 3-4 hours deleting every cd or dvd movie that i ever made from the registry. when i did the same thing for my wife computer there was nothing there from gear pro
whenever i delete something from their temp folder it automatically deletes it too other than just sending it to the recycling in -
sorry but I cannot understand the question fully, is there anyway you can explain what you mean and what you wanna do
I'm a bit tired now and have read it 5 times but still can't get my head round it -
LOL I just did it without the subs
EDIT: no! I did keep the subs and audio 5.1
what a guess -
http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/rtp/rtp1.png
1st query, when I uncheck audio and subs and slide it to 100% the video is 0.03GB smaller than figure in bracketsll??. wonder why?
yet lowering % down slowly I get a difference of 0.02Gb at 65%
http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/rtp/rtp2.png
definetly something up here -
MrBass PM'd me. His result was 3.41GB with the slider at 99% on Road to Perdition. Not sure how he stripped or stripped size though.
-
don't worry I'm on it now and will have a guide up within the day showing howto get 4.37Gb
I'm seeing allsorts here
putting the Original IFO into IC reports this Title (without audio/subs) as 4.27Gb (4.30GB), so again the extra 0.03Gb but smaller than the DVDToolbox IFO by 0.12Gb!
http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/rtp/rtp3.png
if I select the 5.1 audio/ english sub track I get a total size of 4.70Gb, so at least we know the audio & subs are ok as it's still 0.12Gb smaller than DVDToolbox
http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/rtp/rtp4.png
I'll get to the bottom of this. I've set IC away now so it's processing, and I'll come back later with results and hopefully then find a solution
p.s. if anyone sees anything just shout -
this aint gonna be right
I've just worked out the rate its compressing at
IC had processed 500MB of the movie title
the menu vob which I copied at 100% is 421MB
the size of PDI file was 693MB
so 693-421=272MB from processing 500MB which is 54%ish
so looking at that I guess it's gonna be around 54% of 6.27Gb
which will be around 3.41Gb +- 0.02GB
EDIT I've just did it again at 1.30Gb processed and it still hovering around 54%
my settings

If your using IC7 for movie only i would say your gonna have nothing but problems we all know of problems when dropping title sets in the advanced mode.
Since updating to 7.0.1.1 & doing 2 things i have had fantastic results 1 being Road to perdition region 2. movie at 80% extras at min 30% green bar set at 4.61 gig.The final out put was 4.25 gig & the movie was just under 3.4gig.The 2 things i did was with regedit, run regedit search DVDMAGIC & change value to 1 second find DVDalways enable ok button & change value to true (means you dont have to hit F5 every time)
If the the movie has loads of extas that i don't want or take up to much room i will just use the new version of DVD2ONE 1.1.1 in movie only witch has improved on the picture quality since the last release -

DVD2One use is another discussion -
came out 3.56Gb but that includes the 421MB menu
it's maybe down to the black borders confusing IC during processing but is this not the same on other DVD's that contain the borders within the frame?
I will work on it later and try a few things
would using DV2One or DVD95Copy on this movie would the quality still be near perfect due to them both blocking the black areas also? -
MackemX
most cd, dvd burning program have temp directory for projects. i'm just finding out ( using a registry cleaning program) that the registry keep track of all the things that u burn (except for gear pro's projects. for some reason when you delete the projects from gear pro it's completely gone).
i also can't install g-pro on my comp. because before it get a chance to work nero does something to the computer, then it tell me to reboot and after that gear pro won't work. for some strange reason it doesn't do that on my wife's computer though
i just trying to find out if i can make a temp folder set so that when i delete my cd or dvd project there no trace of it left. i guess that i don't want my comp to keep track of what i do in the registry -
i' m sleepy i need a rest. i guess i did post it on the right topic
-
just a suggestion but has anyone actualy checked the quality of the video in the resulting Road To Perdition file?
just rename one of the .PDI files to .VOb and play it
It's excellent!, I just did another attempt and still came out 3.49Gb with max setting on the reg for analysis etc (took 55 mins to analyze!)
yet the quality is awesome, even zooming right in. InstantCopy does an excellent job
it's compressing the black bars to such a degree that it has little effect on the main image and this is why the max you will get is 3.49Gb!
try doing a compare with the two and you will be see the difference is minimal unless you zoom right in
DVD95Copy does an even better job and no doubt DVD2One will also, but those with only IC don't worry as the quality loss is not as bad as you think. The only noticable blocks are the darker areas were you see some blocking but you probably won't notice them on a TV
the only way to fix this would be to crop the video and remove the black bars and process it then add them back in somehow!, but I'd be happy with the quality produced if I were you
tgferg67, what aspect ratio are the other movies and do they have black bars also or do you have different issues with them? -
Yes all the other movies were 16:9 not 4:3 and have the same undersize issues. Yes the quality is still good but I hope Pinnacle will povide and update to address this problem in the near future.
Thanks for the investigation MackemX -
oops thans MisterX for posting that link to dvdtoolbox...didn't know or I wouldn't have started a new thread about it.
I had these done last night but was hoping to throw in additional IC screenpics of 4.25GB or whatever but it didn't happen. Still playing with it. Thanks MisterX for attempting to figure out what in the world IC is thinking cuz it perplexes me.
Here's the quality comparison...note IC is 3.41GB and dvd2one is 4.36GB.
http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/rtp.zip
I checked the aspect ratio and they all seem to be 2:35:1 (and not letterboxed) that tgferg67 is reporting (the ring, bourne identity, road to perdition) -
so again another bug isolated by MackemX
now what do you reckon I call this one mrbass, to go with the other 3?
the 'aspect' bug?
you also get this same effect by still images, (not still frames) as shown in another thread regarding a training video
or maybe we should call it the 'static' bug, cos static images during frames affect it?
