You cannot improve over the original source, at least not in the normal sense. If your run filters to remove noise from an analog source, then you are improving it somewhat, at the cost of some detail (contrast).

The reason your end result looks better (aside from the noise filter..nice job by the way), is becuase you've enlarged your capture material, also magnifying the flaws on the left. For the output you've shrunk it back, and deinterlaced in the process, making it look sharper. Anytime you reduce an image like this, it will appear sharper, and clearer, because your cramming much more detail into a smaller space.

I should also point out that your output is still AVI, and not compressed into VCD MPEG-1 at 1150Kb/s.

    Hey there . . .

Thanks for the comments, DJRumpy - the piccy I posted here was of the vdub setup just before frameserving to CCE. The resulting mpg file looks almost exactly the same on my TV as the avi file looks in vdub - I've found a method that works for what I want, so I'm happy with it!

    Cheers,

    BTW . . .

For any Star Trek Voyager fans out there, the huge guy beating up on Jerri Ryan in the above clip is none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, from WWE fame . . . who knew he could act so well?? (*tongue firmly in cheek*)

LOL..I actually saw that episode. I was one of the few that enjoyed Voyager. That was indeed a sad day, when they began pulling in cameo's from such fields a WWF to increase ratings...
