  1. Hey all,

I hope this isn't the wrong forum for this... ;^)

Here's my problem: I copied some video from my Sony camcorder using Adobe Premiere. It made a 10 GB AVI file that seems to play fine if I open it in Windows Media Player. The problem is, I need to convert it to DivX and Virtualdub won't open it. It gives me an error saying: "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown) VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

Now, I installed a VFW codec and that didn't seem to solve the problem, so I'm kind of stuck...

As for the file, this is what GSpot gives me:

    FourCC: dvsd
    Codec: Sony Digital Video (DV)
    Vendor: Sony
    Status: Codec NOT installed

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

If you can open it in TMPGEnc, do so. Select File-->Output to file-->AVI. when the requester opens, select Video setting and select the appropiate DivX codec. Name the file and save it.

Filefreak, you need MainConcept DV Demo Codec for VirtualDub to open your DV AVI files.
