I have scanned all Forums & cannot find a solution to my query. I am a newbie and will try & be accurate and thorough with my query.
I have downloaded a number of AVI files (mainly movies). I have followed the guide "DIVX (AVI) to (S)VCD using DVD2SVCD" by LeeBear and everything seems to work fine - ie I can split a file to make it less than 80 mins and & prepare it using VirtualDub & I don't seem to have a problem encoding the file via DVD2SVCD.
However, when I go through NeroExpress to burn the encoded file Nero tells me that there is too much MB (despite there being far less than 80 mins playtime.) The MB size is not a problem if I attempt to burn via VCD.
Am I doing something wrong ? What can I do to fit my encoded files on a 700MB disc ? Surely I don't have to split them down again ? Help for this particularly newbie would be greatly appreciated.

You can't get 80 minutes of SVCD on a disk(and have any quality), maybe 40-50. How big is the file you are trying to burn? And are you using 80min/700 MB CDR's?

I am attempting to burn to 700MB/80min CDR - am I using the wrong format ?
Do I need to split the files even further ?
Thanks for your help. -

Thanks again for your help - I now understand that (S)VCD needs to be burned in Mode 2 as opposed to VCD in Mode 1. How do I identify the two modes so that NeroExpress identifies the difference & allows me to burn the file onto CD-R. At the moment when I try to add the file in prep for burning Nero informs me that 600MB file is now a 993MB file - 343 MB more than available, consequently the burning to CD-R is unsuccessful !
Thank you for your continued patience. -

Still struggling...tried burning through VCD Easy but when I try & add the respective files VCD does not pick them up !!! I am getting really frustrated ! Burning to VCD seems very simple & straightforward through NeroExpress...as does burning to (S)VCD, except Nero advises me that the same AVI file is too large to burn as an (S)VCD............please, please, please help me to burn the file as (S)VCD.
Many thanks -
It sounds to me like your dragging and dropping the avi file in nero, correct? Dont do this. encode the avi to 2 seperate mpg files then drag and drop those on 2 seperate (s)vcd discs

Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to be off on the wrong track from the start.
You seem to be trying to burn Avi files as an SVCD. This cannot be done as they must be converted to Mpeg first. Nero has a built in Mpeg encoder that is why a 600MB Avi becomes a 993 MB mpeg, that is normal. Vcdeasy does not accept Avi's at all, only mpegs encoded for VCD or SVCD, that is why it rejected your files. Nero is a terrible encoder, you should be using TMPGEnc instead. You need to do some reading in the newbie section and also in the convert and author sections. Here is a guide for creating vcd's using TMPGEnc: https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm or for SVCD's https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencsvcd.htm
As someone else stated, you are trying to get too much video on one SVCD. An SVCD movie will normally span at least two disks and sometimes three or four depending on the length and encoding method. Hope that gets you back on track!8)
