I have an all in wonder card. I can use either s-vid or comp
vid. My VCR is only comp vid. Should I buy a new VCR that has the jack for the S-video? Or will the quality be the same with the composite video? Thanks, Mac.

S-video will be higher quality, but probably not enough to justify buying a new VCR.

i dont know the quality of your video out on your computer but svideo is way better a connection. it separates color info more . the purity is better. but the computer may be the part thats corupting the purity. so i would not buy one just for that. but know that you can see a nice pleasing upgrade in quality on svideo. but keep in mind that vhs can only capture it so well. if we were into dvd levels i would say dont even bother with the composite. the svideo is simply better . it should also be noted that componet video is even still better than svideo....but not as big as a leap in quality that svideo is over composite. but componet has the possibily of progressive scan ( but that requires a compatible source and tv) in such a case componet with progressive scan units are way way above svideo.

Another thought...for VHS video, the difference between composite and S-Video is going to be much less. For sources like Hi-8 or SVHS, though, it may be well worth it.
Progressive scan is a function of the display device (and video signal/encoding), not the connector. You can display video progressively through a coaxial connector just as well as you can through component connectors, in theory, with the same considerations as to differing quality. -
Could anyone suggest a good VCR below $150 that has an S-Video connection to it?
Thanks a lot,
Mike

Um...Technicaly component are better than S-video. The difference is so minimal though that I would go with whatever is cheapest. I like component the best because of the sound quality though.

Component vs. S-Video has absolutely no impact whatsoever on the audio quality - that's an entirely different connection.
