I want to transfer my VHS tapes to DVD and fit at least 5-6 hours in good quality (i.e., without any quality loss compared to the VHS) onto one DVD disc.
There are some templates at http://www.kvcd.net that seem to do exactly this ... and more. One template claims that it can fit 10 hours on one disc.
Has anyone tried this? Does it really work? Do you get the good quality they brag about?

Try them and see for your self. The templates are there to be downloaded. Download one, fire up tmpgenc, load the template, encode a 5 minute clip and author to some rw media and see if it gives you what you want.
I think this will take you all of 30 minutes at the most.
I personally, have used some of the KVCD templates and for my personal taste they do not seem to meet my desires. However, they are continually being updated and improved (at least that is the claim). Who knows maybe I will like them better. -
The thing is I don't have any DVD burner (nor a capture card) and don't want to buy them only to find out that the templates aren't as good as they say they are. I'd like to get as many opinions as possible about this before I decide whether or not to buy a burner.

If you don't like the templates being offered, you can create your own template or modify a template to meet your liking.
