  1. Okay, well I encoded a 18 minute AVI to MPEG2 using Tmpgenc. I encoded it as 7000kbps CBR using Tmpgenc's DVD NTSC template. I then demuxed it. Then I authored it in IFOEdit. The resulting VOB plays great with one exception - in the very beginning of the video (first chapter/cell), about a couple seconds in, it will pause (it is playing, but the frame locks-up) and then it resumes about 2 seconds later and plays through fine after that. I tried authoring smaller video segments and they also seem to exhibit similar problems. Has anyone experenced this? Can anyone think of anything I'm doing wrong? I'm running Win98 1st edtn. I'm baffled! Thanks!

  2. Well, I'm helping myself out here! Here's what I just found...

The problem must be with Tmpgenc. I just encoded the same small test AVI in bbMPEG and authored it in IFOEdit and presto! No lagging frame! This is very disappointing in a sense seeing at though I just blew $50 on the registered version of Tmpgenc! Anyone wanna buy serial for a discount?

Has anyone experenced this with Tmpgenc & IFOEdit? Again, perhaps I had some setting wrong. I did use the the DVD NTSC template though.

  3. The problem is with IFOedit. There is a well documented glitch in the NTSC authoring. Lower your bitrate and try again. Or simply use Maestro and all will be fine.

  4. Hey VidHack,

Thanks for the info. Simply use Maestro, huh? That's funny! I wish I could afford it. I was initially really frusterated with IFOEdit, but now that I know how to do chapters with it, I'm really liking it. Pretty featureless, but simplicity can be a beautiful thing, unlike Sonic's hold your hand cookie cutter authoring garbage.
