  1. Hi guys,

Want to transfer VHS tape to desktop to make VCDs.
I have been looking around, and I am thinking of buying the Pinnacle Studio VCD. Is it any good for the job?
    Desktop is C400/64MB/8GB.
I heard capturing uncompressed might be better, but with 8GB i think it is better for the device to compress it.
Hope to hear what you have to say.
    Thanks

It's slowwwwww. Dazzle DV or ATI AIW may be your best bet. I own an ATI AIW 128pro. You can get them as low as $139 and OEM versions are even cheaper.

  3. Do a search on the forums here. I know there is at least one thread I saw recently where many users complained of the mpg output from this card. Apparently it's mpeg encoding engine is pretty lousy.

  4. Thanks guys,

I cannot find any ATI AIW in Australia, as for the Dazzle DVC II it retails for AUD$1098 here in Australia, that is about over US$500, I think I am better of buying it from the internet for approx US$250.
Yes I have seen some nasty comments about Pinnacle Studio VCD, and because I have many videos to convert into VCD, I think Dazzle DVC II is better, I do not want to buy a cheap one and regret it, I better put the money in something reliable and faster.
    Thanks again,

  5. hello
i also had that problem so i bought a STUDIO PCTV
it capture AVI or with MEDIA TOOLS OF MICROSOFT direct to ASF or with VD to DIVX
ok , the problem with STUDIO VCD AND PCTV AND PCTVPRO is
that they dont have audio INPUT , so you need an external AUDIO CARD - i have creative
for the quality ... use S-VIDEO it will be 8.5 of 10
for the audio ... direct from your vcr
so for that ... all card will be fine
try to also look for DC10 or even a new card that i saw yesterday ....

  6. I've just bought the Studio VCD at US$70.00. I can only capture vedio at 352x288. The result is about 90% of the original. But you should update the driver to BT878. The original driver is not good and Pinnacle does not has a updated driver in their site.. I'm now looking for another even more newer driver which allows me to capture at 480x576 SVCD quality. Does anyone can help with the driver?
