DVD Ripping on Small HD (less than 2 gigs)

What is the best way to rip a dvd on a small hd??? Is it possible to to do it in chunks then join it together later?

Yes that would be just about the only way. Use any dvdripper and just rip one vob at a time to your hard drive. Vobs are always about 1 gig in size. Encode each vob separately and join in the end.

Joining mpgs isnt fun. For mpeg1 files (vcd) TMPGenc should be fine. Look in the file/mpeg tools/join tab. If you get audio bleeps where the files are joined you will need to use something else, I use VcdCutter. For mpeg2 files (svcd) again just use TMPGenc to join but once your done you will need to demultiplex and then remultiplex in bbmpeg in order for your file to be svcd compliant.

There is a program which can encode a vcd from vobs without ripping them to your hard drive first, but it puts a serious strain on your dvdrom. If I were you I'd buy a bigger hard drive.

could try dvdX 1.4 or something,,,
but it accesses it directly from the dvd rom drive, but how long , i dont know....havent tried it.
something, ill rip on my spare pc and do one or two vobz at a time (if im low on space).

Once you got all 4 (5, however many) mpg clipz, drag n drop to your burning app and burn. You;ll just have 2 or 3 mpgz (as long as it doesnt exceed 800mb, youre okay) instead of one. There's probably a default setting on mpg2 to pause for 5 secz or so. I set that to 0. Hardly noticeable on playback
