Hi
I'm a total newbie and have burned a few sucsessful cdr discs both ripped from dvd and downloaded movies.
I have had fair success but keep coming out with the same problem,
The audio sync seems fine before i encode a .avi file i use virtual dub to get a seperate wave file and encode to mpeg using Tmpg, all gets encoded fine and burn to disc using Nero,
However i keep getting the same problem, at some point during the downloaded movies i get some kind of glitch/frezze which might only last 1/2 seconds but after that point the audio/video is out of sync, is there any way of checking and repairing errors before you encode or do you have to watch the whole movie to check for errors, i have read all the user guides but to be honest alot of it is going over my head,
If there is a simple way of doing this in real newbie terms i would be most gratefull.
Thanks
Mark

Yes, you must delete any bad frames before converting. The program to do it is Virtualdub. Vdub comes in two flavours for checking bad frames, regular Vdub and Vdub-mp3, they are available in the Tools section. The mp3 version is used when the audio is VBR (variable bitrate) you'll know if it is VBR because Vdub gives you a warning.
In regular Vdub: Load your AVI, under Video select Scan Video Stream for Errors, Vdub will mask any bad and undecodable frames, select Audio Direct Stream Copy, select Video Direct Stream Copy, Save Avi to create a new file without bad frames.
In Vdub-MP3, slightly more complicated but basically doing the same thing, here's a guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=142555

Thankyou both for your replies
I have started giving your advice a go already,
The first file i scaned with v-dub finished ok and said a messsage at the bottom
"o bad frames 0 good frames but undecodeable"
Does that mean its ok to continue on and save the avi as you said?
Thanks again

Me again!
Since my last post I've come across another problem, when loading the saved avi into tmpg from v-dub, the "Judging field order" box appears and just stays on 19% and don't move, Ive tried changing the enviroment setting to read avi files higher in Tmpg but it makes no difference, any ideas?
Please
Cheers
