  1. I'm trying to encode a DVD Rip with a VBR to XVCD. I've tryed saving the audio stream as a 44,100khz wav via vitrualdub but it was still out of sync after the encoding. The scary part is: It get's more and more out of sync as the video goes on!!! Why the **** is this happening? Can it be fixed? :'(

VirtualDub can't handle VBR mp3 audio properly, use Nandub or other modifield Vdub versiions instead for saving your audio as uncopressed wav.

Or, to use any VDub version:
Set direct stream copy under audio, then Save wav.
As you know it's MP3 audio, just rename this newly created wav to ???.mp3
Now convert this MP3 to wav wit a dedicated mp3 to wav converter, like CDEX.
Also, be sure to use the same frame rate for your XVCD as your AVI!

  4. When I converted through virtual dub last time, I noticed that the wav's length and the video's length were a few seconds off. I now tried following mats.hogberg's advice and I noticed that when I played the wav file thru media player, it said the length of it was 20-30 shorter than the movie, although when I tried playing it (the wav) to the end, it actually went a few seconds longer than the movie. VERY CONFUSING EH? I'm trying to encode this movie (for the 5th time) and I'll see what happens.

  5. I was also confused with DVDx, I want to rip StartWars Episode 2,
and there is a strange thing:

simply playing the DVD with DVDx, not encoding, I see the
movie, all seems to be OK. But suddenly, The movie restart !
No Error Message, simply restarting !
If I encode this movie, the same thing appears.
    very strange.
Is there any pb with multiangle movies ?

Download a better quality movie? You do realise 'those' movies are encoded VBR for a reason? The guides are pretty much how you fix VBR/AC3 audio for AVI2-whatever conversions.
