I'm trying to encode a DVD Rip with a VBR to XVCD. I've tryed saving the audio stream as a 44,100khz wav via vitrualdub but it was still out of sync after the encoding. The scary part is: It get's more and more out of sync as the video goes on!!! Why the **** is this happening? Can it be fixed?:'(

does the resulting mpeg file have audio/video out-of-sync when playing with media-player too?
or is it just with standalone dvd-players?
if with media-player everything is fine, it is possible that your mpeg-stream is not muxed correctly.
or you might have to turn on the "pad VCD audio" option.
if it's out-of-sync with media-player too, you have a problem
e.g. dvd2avi does not accout for "missing frames" - means it ignores the time-stamps on frames inside the video-stream completely.
if you have a source that has parts where there is no video - even if only 1 frame is missing - you have a bigger problem...
one cross-converter that can handle such streams and can convert mpeg-2/VOB/mpeg1/avi to mpeg1/mpeg2 is flaskMPEG.
or the flask-spinoff xMpeg.
try those.
or you can try mpeg2avi and convert to uncompressed or huffyuv, and then convert the uncompressed avi to mpeg using whatever encoder you prefer...
if you try flask or mpeg2avi and you still have sync-problems, i'm afraid i can't help 8)
