  1. Hi!

I am a former pc user and I used to do everything on vcd encoding with tmpgenc, it was quite easy. Now I changed to a faster computer (a mac g4 733) with osx 10.2.2 but I cant make vcd mpgs out of my mpegs. I found out about cleaner 6 and I even gave it a try cause a friend of mine said it was quite the same as tmpgenc. Its actually pretty close, only it makes my computer so slow it gets on my nerves. Its weird, even small files take ages to be encoded. Also, the sound is most times out of sync, something I have never experienced with tmpgenc.

Can anyone tell me what shall I use here? I have tons of videos waiting to be stored in vcd and theres nothing I can do about it.

Can anyone direct me to a good tmpgenc-like encoder for macintosh, or eve to a list of good converters avaliable out there?

    I feel really lost!

  3. Downgrade Cleaner to 5.1.2.
It's a bit buggy with Jaguar but works: with mpeg1 is 2 TIMES FASTER than version 6 (with the same settings)!

Or try something different like ffmpegX... (but here no filter available)

  5. I think I will stay with cleaner for now, its much more close to tmpgenc then any other mac encoder (tho a bit slow). Only I cant do something in cleaner that I used to do with tmpgenc:

    - when I encode a video that was captured from an old tape and has messy lines in the bottom or even at the top (especially if this video comes from an old tape not from first generation), I used to simply crop the bottom and top of those videos and black bars would appear in the final encoded mpg. Now when I chose to crop the image on cleaner, the black bars wont appear, it will automatically resize the image to show up on a full screen. This doesnt look very good I think, I'd like to keep the black bars on my image as I used to with tmpgenc.

Anyone knows how this is done in cleaner? Probably its quite easy and Im not understanding...

  6. I think you can use static mask to put your black bars at the top and bottom, just make an image the same size as your video and put black bars ant the top and bottom, then load it in cleaner. I think static mask is under the image section. not sure what format it will except but probably .pict will work.

    good luck
