I just thought I'd share my experience with some media on my DRU-500UL drive.
A friend of mine turned me on to these Samsung/BeAll disks at CDRDVDRMedia.com. They aren't labeled as 2x, but burn at 2x in my Sony. It also says on the page for the disks that these report as burning at 2x on Sony dual format drives. There are both spindles and jewel cased media, the spindles are silver top while the jewel cased are white, they are both about the same price, $80 for 50 disks. I've used several of these and I've not made a one coaster, even on disks burned to near-full capacity.
Just my $0.02.

How do the Samsung discs handle labels? I called meritline.com and they said they have tested the Samsung discs with labels, but had not tested the Maxells they have. I have used Maxell and labeled one as a test and had no problems.

I don't know, I don't label my DVDs. I simply write neatly on the top with a sharpie. The Samsung disks that come in the jewel cases have a nicely branded white top anyway. The spindle pack is a plain silver top.
