  1. I just finished burning an SVCD to a 700mb/80min disc.

I used DVD2SVCD and CCE to go from the original DivX - in CCE I specified on the bitrate tab to use 2 discs if the movies was between (1 hour and 1 hour 25 mins - not sure if that was the exact band but you get the picture) - the movie is 1hour 11 mins ...

... so I get the final bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg and it is 794mb!!!

So I think - this won't go an a disc - but what the hell - I give it a go - using VCDeasy I burn it - low and behold it appears to fit on - and even increases to 805mb!

Now - my question is this - when I watch this movie (the quality of which I am sure is fine as I've watched the first 5 mins) - am I going to be missing something at the end etc? Or are the file sizes just messed up with conversion this way?

Also - why did I end up with just 1 bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg? Surely, the bitrate setting on CCE should have outputted me 2 to burn?

Hope someone can help out on this.

  2. A 700 MB / 80 min CD can contain about 700 MB (usually up to 710 to 715 if you overburn) in data mode .
In this mode, disc space additional to the stuff you burn is used for error correction bits .
If you burn 700 MB, about 100 MB is used for that .

Since an SVCD does NOT use this error processing, you can burn just about 805 MB onto one 700 MB data disc .

You can also use the 805 MB for normal data if you use a special procedure that overrules the error processing and burns there data in the same mode SVCD's are burnt .

Read the article on www.doom9.org if you want to know more .

    thanks for your help mate

will have a look on doom9 again

what happens when you try and burn a svcd with too much - say 900mb - will vcdeasy just spit it out or does the disc corrupt?

  4. I do not know what VCDEasy will do because I do not know the program .
It is not very likely, though, that the program will accept a 900 MB file and automatically burn over to a new CD .

Why don't you just split that file in 2 ?

Hi, I'm new to this. I used Adobe Premiere to capture and encode and I've created a mpeg-2 file that's slightly more than 2 gig. Which program should I use to split it so that I can burn as SVCD?

    Simple rule...

Mode 1 CD = CD with error correction (mainly used for storing data)
Mode 2 CD = CD without error correction (SVCD), so more data to store on!!! (So a 700MB CD can hold approx. 800MB, 800MB CD can hold approx 900MB!!!!! (90minutes audio CD'S))

These settings are selectable in NERO!!!

    cheers

  7. How do I change to Mode 2 to allow a 738MB Divx file to fit on a disk with Nero. I checked off Mode 2/XA and Nero still tells me not enough room on the media. So I must have something set wrong.

Did you check the advanced tab in the preferences of NERO???

Somewhere here you can select overburn capabilities!!! Also you have to change the maximum limits of your media (in minutes and seconds)!!!

    Good luck!!!

p.s. Sorry, I don't have Nero with me at the moment, Else I gave you a screendump!!!

You have to do Disk-At-Once, versus Track-at-Once to Overburn.

VCDEasy will take the file and burn it onto what ever disc is in the drive. The problem is that when the drive runs out of disc space because the file is too large, the program will error off. However, the disc will still contain all of the information recorded up to that point and will play correctly up to the point where your standalone will no longer read the disk.

Using this method I have found out that I can reliably record up to 821MB on a single 700MB disc. However, as always in an overburn condition when the player attempts to read past the normal limits all bets are off on whether it will play correctly. In fact, my standalone starts to skip, halt, jerk, and otherwise not play as expected whenever I record more than about 815MB. Although, I can record up to 821MB, I do not have a player that can read past about 815MB.
Thus, I know that if push comes to shove, I can if needed record those last few frames in order to keep from using another disc.

MODE2/XA = MODE2 Form1 sectors and you still get the same data capacity as MODE1 discs.

Basically, you cannot make standard CD-ROMs with S/VCD type capacities for the MPEG tracks.
