  1. Ok.. this isn't one of them "how doyou do it?" Posts... I see a lot of them :\ and eveyone is asking how... well... what I'd like to know..

has anyone EVER done it? Not the fluke 1 DVD out of 30 thats not audio sync... but actually found a real way? I tried many things... none seem to work. Converted with TMPGENC's engine, tried with high quality... low, even the SSRC program. All did audio out of sync after about 20 mins of the show... So I tried with Uleads DVD program, With just converting the audio... And that one wont even seem to load up in my DVD player.... I'm running out of ideas.... Can't seem to get it to work... so my other option... is there a way to put 5-6 hours onto a DVD by any chance? maybe in DVD format? Anyways... post is really just to ask if anyones ever been able to do it without getting 90% bad audio... please let me know

What is your source material? 99.9% of sync related problems seem to be due to a bad AVI, mostly downloaded off some P2P network.

  3. Some are from AVI... Most are from either VCD, or SVCD though. They're not bad... I just burned one of the MPG (DVD 48000 MHZ ones) onto a CD-R With nero... It seems to be working pretty good.... letting it run through, at 25 mins and no out of sync issues... Seems to only be on the DVD... My guess is because DVD structures are diff... I hear lots of people have this problem

  4. Yes this is possible, I have done it several times.

If you are encoding from avi using Tmpgenc, just use the standard VCD template (the one that matches the source files framerate) except change the audio to 48Khz sample rate. Then author to DVD. I have use Dazzle DVD complete, Ulead DVD WS and Sonic MyDvd succesfully.

If the files is already mpeg and supposedly VCD ready, check this with bitrate viewer. If it is OK (within DVD spec), demultiplex the audio using TmpGenc mpeg-tools. Convert the audio to 48Khz with your favourite audio converter (TmpGenc + ssrc + toolame for me). re-multiplex if your authoring package requires it, the author as above.

The only time I have had sync problems doing this was with mpegs that were NOT within VCD spec. DVD supposedly supports higher bitrates than VCD but I have had no luck with these.

    Hope this helps

According to specs, there's no bitrate limit on mpeg1 on DVD (besides the over all DVD restriction of max 9.8 Mbit/sec). This may not be true in reality, tho...
However, VBR mpeg1 isn't allowed, and only legal mpeg1 res are VCD standard (352*240/288).

What specs are you refering to? According to the dvd demystifed faq is the mpeg1 limit around 1.8 mbit/s even though I think it will work fine with higher.

I'm quoting this page. It mentions some differences in what's allowed for MPEG1 and MPEG2, but nothing about bitrates, as far as I can see.

    Ikarasu,

I've done a number of these over the past week or so since I got my new burner. Although I'll be converting to full DVD from now on, all my previous creations were VCD. Ulead DVDMovieFactory2 was more than willing to take the VCDs and convert just the audio for me (and kept it all in sync). The real trick is to make sure to define your project for VCD settings 352x240,1150k so it won't convert the video (very ugly if it does) and set the audio to 48k.

I then used MF2 to create an ISO and then used Nero Express to burn the ISO and worked like a charm. I tried using Nero to burn from the VIDEO_TS folder but that DVD only worked on my DVDR-R drive. Not my DVD-ROM, Panasonic RP56 or Panasonic Q. Burning using ISO worked on all four perfectly. Fit 10 epsides, @7.5 hours per disc, onto 2 DVD-Rs with nice menus. Yah, they're just in VCD format, but the convenience of having 15hrs on 2 discs are pretty nice.

Anyway, this is the guide I followed to get it done:

Good luck, your closer than you think.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

It isn't my player..Sound issue happens in my DVD-R drive too. It's a probably with the multiplexing, not the actual player... if you look around, lots of people have this issue... and they all just talk about diff ways they did it, and all say none of them work >_<

Right now... I'm trying to burn some files as from ulead that were .ISO... been trying to burn files onto my RW, my desktop DVD doesnthandle RW too well, but latelly.. isnt playing them at all, thinking maybe if I do it as ISO, it will... if not, I'll try to burn onto a reg DVD-R... Thinking maybe its ulead thats the prob for me, Going to look into how to do it with other programs too... right now, I used TMPG with lame, and SRSCC as audio encoding, so I'm hoping it works... :\
