I have just upgraded my PC from an Athlon 2000 to a P4 2.4 and now I'm having playback problems. Every few minutes or so during playback the movie skips a few frames and I don't know why. I have tried VCD, SVCD, DVD and even DivX, both on a disc and on the hard drive and they all do the same thing. I have tested with WMP, DivX Playa and PowerDVD. All of these files playback fine on other computers including my old one. I also purchased a new hard drive for the upgrade and did a clean install of Win XP Pro, I also have the Nimo Codec Pack installed. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be. Sorry if this is a bit vague but I really don't know what to look for to fix this. I'll be happy to provide extra info if needed.
    New PC info: Asus P4PE, P4 2.4, 256 DDR2100, 80GB Seagate, Geforce4.
    Cheers.

  2. Have you installed the intel INF update and the Intel application accelerator? Do you have the latest Nvidia display drivers? that being the 41.09 drivers.. How about Service pack 1 for XP Pro?

  3. I suggest going into Hardware manager and checking the CD and HD drive settings. Make sure you are using DMA mode and not PIO mode.

  5. This the exact problem I have...I have a Asus P4B motherboard so maybe that's where the problem lays.
I also get skip moments in video playback but also in music Cd playback...that leaves me think that it is a hardware problem.
I've installed the Intel app. accelerator and servicepack 1...didn't do jack.
It looks like the buffering or caching doesn't do it's job very well.

    Anybody?

  6. what about the Intel INF update? Its a whole different thing than the Application Accelerator.. it should help smoothness in games too. It did for me back when I had an i850 board.

If that does not fix it hit up the Asus site looking for known issues. If you find none, send Asus support a WTF
