Problem burning VCD with Ricoh

Hi,
Been having some problems with my Ricoh MP7080A writer, firmware is updated and using Nero 5.5.10.7. First problem is that it often dosen't recognise the media, only by opening the drawing and giving it a bit of a push does it then respond. I can burn VCD's no problem on to CDRW's at x4 but when I try and burn a CDR at x4 the picture breaks up and becomes all 'blocky' when played back on my DVD player. Any idea's to sort these problems would be gret.

I recenly had the same problem with my richo as it aged
i found it would do as yours mainly on cheap CDs
but worked fine with TDK white disks so you could give that
a try
But decided it might be time to replace my Richo
as i thought it might be age that was the problem.
Hope the media change helps.
