  1. I've seen several topics on this. I've come to the conclusion that cheap media + dvd label = trouble. I bought some cheap media off ebay and every copy I labeled it skipped or I got blocks at some point in the movie. I bought some verbatim dataplus dvd+r (p/n 94324) put a label on it, watched the whole movie without any problems. I found the verbatim on ebay for $40 for a 20pk compared to $100 at one site I saw them on. If you like labeling your media like me I suggest you use the verbatim or some other high quailty media.

  2. None of the 200+ cheap media I have has a problem playing in six different DVD players and they are all labeled.

  3. Maybe I got hold of a bad batch of media, but the one that did work didn't have a label.

  6. I'm not even sure what brand the are. I have two different sets (100each)of 4x DVD-R I bought from allmedia and supermedia (both look the same to me) and 50 DVD-R I got from CompUSA a few days ago. In general I have not had any problems so far with media except for 15 Verbatim DVD-R I bought from BestBuy that had bubbles and voids near the outer edge of the disc. I just used them for files under 3.9GB and they worked fine for that.

  7. I think I'm going to stick with verbatim for now. I'm a little leary about trying other media. Like they say if you find something that works stick with it.

What types of lables are you using? I used to use the Neato core cd lables and they worked great. I switched over to the Casio CW-50 CD printer ($85.) Its pretty sweet because it prints basic text/graphics directly onto the cd surface. Works great.

  10. I used Ritek (spool of 50 for 36.95 + tax) over 100, plus Sonix DVD label no problems to report.

Yes, it prints directly on the surface (no label.) It's a thermal printer so it adheres the ink to the plastic of the cd/dvd. The section that you print on needs to be label-free (in other words no printing by the manufacturer on the top of the disk.) I use 'brandless' ritek disks to be totally safe.

The quality is quite good. The resolution is only 200dpi but it still looks good. You can't print on the entire cd/dvd, it only prints in blocks of 16x74mm. With some imagination, you can get it to print on almost all of the disk.

Yes, it prints in color BUT only ONE color at a time. The ribbons only get 20-40 prints on them. With some manipulation of the print cart (ie rewinding the ribbon) you can get double that.

Some places say it can't do graphics but it can. They don't look all that hot if they are many color (or grayscale) since the printer software has to dither the image. I usually convert any images I'm going to print to 2 color. The little logos that I made for my 'production company' look really good.

For the price (I got mine from provantage.com) its pretty cool. I usually just print text with it but the text looks good none the less.

Heres a link to the product...

  13. Interesting thread.... I own one but have not had the time to play around with it. Curious about the graphics potential. Sounds like it is possible.
