  1. OK.. I am converting 2 x 700 meg XVid files to DVDR. They total about two and a half hours, and I want to get it onto one DVDR.. hence me using MPEG 1.

I am currently at the situation where I have ran the file through Virtual Dub, corrected errors, then passed through TMPGEnc using the low resolution DVD NTSC filter.

I now have two 1.2Gig MPEG-1 files, which play fine through Windows Media Player, and I'm really happy with the quality.

Now all I want to do is burn them to DVDR. I have two programs.. DVD Maestro and Ulead DVD Movie Factory. Both of them seem to want an MPEG 2 file... Ulead converts it (badly), and Maestro won't even let me open it...

I'm not bothered about menus, intros or chapters or anything.. all I want is one 2.5 hour prog on the DVD.

Surely there is an easy way to do this?

    Any ideas?

i just posted about a new authoring softwear called

It will reincode the vid & you have a bitrate slider on it were you can make you video fit on the disk.

Couldn't tell you much more without knowing the particular properties of the MPEG1 files, but my guess is that Maestro WILL accept the files. You just have to give it elementary streams. IOW, demux them 1st.

  5. Ulead DVD MF2 will covert just the audio to 48Khz and let you burn to DVD.
Have you tried using the KDVD template from www.kvcd.net and TMPGEnc? This lets me get 3.5-4 hrs on a DVD at decent quality.
www.meritline was out of stock last I checked, but they were offering a software bundle with Ulead DVD MF2SE for $30!

  6. Ok.. I'll give downloading MyDVD a go..

I could reprocess them as MPEG 2 I guess, but with my trusty 450 MHz PC, it took them ages to get them to this state...

What program is best to demux them?

  7. My DVD will reencode the audio to .pcm which is huge. Just use tmpegenc open it, close the wizard, pick file\mpeg tools the click the simple demultiplex too. Load the file click run. When it is done you will have a video file that has no audio it wiill be a .m1v file for mpeg1, and an audio only file .mpa, or .mp2 Maestro should accept those no problem.

  8. you already have applications that will work....specifically MF2.

First, you should split off a small section of your MPG-1(1 minute for instance) video for experimentation and of course use a DVD+-/RW disk. Also, you should pick a section of video that has high motion so you can determine what kind of motion artifacts and edge blurring you'll end up with.

Next, open MF2. At the bottom left corner open the options box > disk template manager. Then create a new template with VCD parameters....video @ 1150Kbs CBR. (VCD compliant...if your MPG-1 isn't this then you're screwed). It doesn't matter that your video is MPG-1 and you're in the "MPG-2" section. Set the audio at 224kbs MPG.

Then, go thru the MF2 steps and create your experimental DVD. It should only re-encode the audio and that won't take long with a 1 minute clip.

If you're satisfied tou could now try the whole enchilada.

BUT!!.....be advised there is a possibility for audio sync problems. I've made about 15 DVD's this way from VCD MPG-1. Over 100 hours and about 1/2 hour has some slight audio sync problems. That's not bad but apparently others have had a lot more problems. But it may be worth a try for you.

OR!!....If you still have the original video you can always use TMPEnc to re-encode to MPG-2. ( you'll have to Load>unlock.mcf) For 2.5 hours you could set the parameters @ MPG-2, 352 X 240 2750 CBR 29.97fps audio @ 48000hz 224kbs.(generally VBR is better then CBR but for a XVCD conversion it shouldn't matter).

At 2750KBs, I can get around 3 hours 15 minutes on a DVD so I'd bet you could jack up the datarate a bit more then 2750. I guarantee that the video quality will be much better then if you used your MPG-1 video. I've made a couple dozen DVD's this way and no audio sync problems yet (knock wood)

    hope this helps
