  1. I am using Windows 98SE running on a Celeron 400 with 256mb of ram (yes it's old I know). My question is, lately my mouse has been playing up, like it darts from one side of the screen to the other then stays there then it will be fine then it will do it again.

Initially I thought it might have been a virus but I now suspect it to be a buggy setting or control in Windows as I checked in the 'Device Manager' and under its 'Resources' for the mouse it had a message "Interrupt Request" "Setting: 12".

Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it.

    Cheers.

By the way it is just an ordinary Logitech mouse, not optical or anything.

  3. I have discovered a very scientific way of fixing it when it happens, banging it on the desk.

I think i might just buy a new optical mouse. Seem cheap enough these days.

  5. Seems that the mouse itself was screwed. Just got a new one and to help pay for it I think I will sell the old one on eBay as a "joke mouse - watch as it goes crazy - fun prank to play on friends".

mine does that too--just happens when it can't get a proper reflection off the surface--i just pick it up, plop it down and it resets the arrow to the top--no smashing required (even if warranted)
