I have a ProScan PS8680z DVD player. Someone told me that this DVD player could damage CD-Rs as well as DVD-Rs due to it's type of laser. I know it's not capable of playing CD-Rs, but it can play DVD-Rs. How could a DVD player potentially ruin or ruin a DVD-Rs? I guess I'll stay away from it until I know. I thought it did a good job playing the DVD-Rs though.

  2. You mean the same way that shining purple light on your bathroom mirror could damage it instead of white light

I'm not sure how this rumor got started but, to the best of my knowledge, there are no DVD players that will either be damged by or to damage to CDR/DVDR discs.

I do remember my PS8680z owner's manual (can't find it though) warning the user to not put any CD-R in the player due to it's layer. I was told that the laser emits a certain amount of heat that is OK for normal DVDs but not DVD-Rs. This is just what I heard. I am not backing it up or saying it's true, but it's just what I was told. I know it sounds funny though. I am just picturing taking out this melted DVD-R from a ProScan
