I have certain asf files that VirtualDub 1.3 tries to open, but I get this error message "couldn't locate decompressor for format 'WMV1(unknown)"I've loaded all the codecs that I found under tools on this site...what am I missing here? Thanks.

  2. Go to the tools section and get Gspot.

  3. i have the same problem....

i got this error in virtualdub
"couldnt locate decompressor for format IV41(indeo video 4.1)
v-dub requires a video for windows(VFW) compatable codec
to decompress video. directshow codecssuch as those used by
windows media player are not suitable."

and i got gspot in the k-lite codec pack.... ran a few vid files and all those were ok... put in the one that gave me the error in v-dub and i dont understand what the results mean....

    help plz

  4. Gspot isn't a codec it's a program that anylizes your video file to determine what codecs you need to play it. Run gspot, load your video file, and see (tell us) what codecs it says you need.

    (for both video and audio).

  5. ok using Gspot on 2 video files i have i got this...

    1. not a valid avi file
    video format : 4CC - n.a.
    name n.a.
    direct show renderer
    non-avi file
    type unknown
    file rendered successfully
    source: media subtype_avi
    video media: dcc IV41
    video codec: indeo video 4.3

    2. file length correct
    video format : 4CC: IV41
    name: indeo interactive
    direct show renderer
    source :mediasubtype_avi
    4CC: IV41
    video codec: indeo video 4.3

pretty much the same exact things huh? so im wondering whats wrong with the first file??
also, both files do not play with the most recent DivX player.... strange thing tho, video 1 causes Windows Media player to crash, while video 2 will play normally in windows media player...
so what do you all suggest? if you need more info, tell me what i need to post THANX !!!!

  7. Virtual Dub 1.4 won't open ASF files.

Version 1.3 will with an add on file that is linked to from the Tools Edit/join/cut section of this site.
