  1. okay, not exactly sure where i should post this, but i guess this is the right area...

here's the question: i am looking for software that will allow 'mixing up' of recorded video material (let's say a 'video feed' in the form of an avi file) and a 'modeled world' ie. the kind of stuff that raytracers etc. produce

however, i am not looking for the ultimate realism, so heavy raytracers are not exactly what i am looking for

the purpose: taking several recordings, and enhancing them with computer graphics

some of the things it would need to do:

    - load in an avi, and forward / backward frame by frame (important, for aligning objects with real life events)

    - allow rotation / positioning / focus (lens angle) of camera, per frame, if possible with (b)spline / tweening of intermediate camera / object positions

    - wireframe, solid shading, raytrace, or (this is getting interesting) good hardware accelerator support (have a look at unreal, do you need a ray tracer? not always...)

    example:

    1. actor standing in blue room, leaning against a blue wall (bluescreen)
    2. camera moves in half a circle around the actour
    3. build an object, place it on the wall position (it's a blue screen effect, aka. colorkeying, so instead of an actor leaning against nothing he's now leaning against the wall)
    3. add structure / texture to the wall
    4. generate file

    or something like that

any suggestions? i am going to have a look at blender, but i'm not sure if that's it, lightwave looks promising, but the price... euh...

  2. i guess most of the people here are heavily into ripping / converting and less into editing

anyway, found a possible solution in blender, but new suggestions are welcome
